Celebrate Apollo 11
On July 16, 1969, at Cape Kennedy, Florida, Apollo 11 astronauts Neal Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin rocketed into history. Upon orbit, Columbia released the Eagle lunar module for its descent onto the Sea of Tranquility. America won the “Race to the Moon” on July 20, 1969, when Neil Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface and spoke the historic words; “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Apollo 11 conducted milestone experiments and returned lunar samples to Earth. America achieved President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 lofty national objective, to land a man on the moon and safely return him to earth by the end of the decade.
